Photos: Indian Navy Medevacs Malaysian Seafarer From Singapore-Flagged Ship

A Malaysian man who faced a sudden medical emergency onboard a Singapore flagged ship near Mumbai was rescued by the Indian Navy on Thursday.

The person in question suffered a digestive problem on the ship which ultimately caused breathing difficulties for him. Hence immediate rescue and treatment were needed. on board a vessel near the Mumbai coast. The 34-year-old apparently had gastroesophageal reflux.

Distress Signal Issued

The Western Naval Command received information about a medical emergency onboard the Singaporean vessel MV Eagle Tampa which ultimately prompted the Navy to carry out the medical evacuation.

“An #IndianNavy Seaking helicopter was deployed today morning responding to a medical emergency by a Singaporean merchant ship MV Eagle Tampa 18 NM off Mumbai. A 34 years old Malaysian citizen was evacuated safely from the ship by the Seeking and transferred to a hospital in Mumbai,” Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, Mumbai tweeted.

Patient Hospitalised

The evacuation was carried out by the Naval Seeking Helicopter of INS Shikra after attempts to transfer the patient to a tug failed twice.

A private ambulance later took the patient to a nearby hospital.
