The Most Expensive Yacht In The World

The History Supreme is a name which has become synonymous with luxurious yachting. It is valued at a whopping $4.8 billion and is cited as the most expensive yacht in the world.

It purported designer is Stuart Hughes, a British luxury designer known for transforming everyday consumer items such as iPads, iPhones and gaming consoles into opulent objects by encrusting them with precious stones, diamonds and gold.

In 2011, Hughes had announced his grandest project, a 100-foot superyacht commissioned by an anonymous Malaysian Businessman, widely rumoured to be Robert Kuok, the richest man in Malaysia with a net worth of $12.5 billion, and the founder of the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. However, neither Kuok nor his staff ever confirmed this.

According to rumours, Robert Kuok bought the superyacht worth 10 times the amount Roman Abramovich paid for the Eclipse megayacht.

Per reports, the impressive yacht took three years to be built. Its price tag is justified because of the use of a staggering 220,462 pounds or 100,000 kilograms of precious metals.

Everything from the base of the yacht to its deck, dining area, anchor, rails, etc, is decked out in platinum and gold, transforming the ship into a floating piece of art rather than a functional yacht.

The interior of the yacht is said to be more extravagant, especially the master bedroom, which is said to have-

  • A wall feature made from a meteorite
  • A statue crafted from real Tyrannosaurus Rex bones
  • A wall aquarium made of 24-carat gold.
  • Liquor bottle with an 18.5 carat diamond encrusted on it.

Many within the maritime industry question whether such a yacht exists or is only an exaggeration.

This is because the only photos of the yacht come from Stuart Hughes’ website, and no pictures or videos of it are available from any reputable source. There have been no credible reports of it ever being seen at sea. Some even say that the photos on the website were stolen and belonged to another yacht.

Yachting experts and naval architects agree that a 100-foot yacht laden with 100,000 kilograms of precious metals would not be seaworthy. The enormous weight would make it difficult to stay afloat.

Additionally, unlike other ships and yachts which have their movements and ownership tracked by maritime databases and publications, there is no public record of this yacht ever being constructed, delivered or registered.

Conclusion

Most industry sources believe that History Supreme does not exist; rather, it is a brilliant piece of marketing which went viral. Stuart Hughes’ story is a perfect mix of sensational claims and a touch of awe-inspiring details, which captivated people worldwide.

Apart from the History Supreme, there are many other expensive yachts in the world. One such is the Eclipse owned by Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich. It has several swimming pools, a disco, advanced security features including missile defence systems, bulletproof windows, etc. It is valued at $1.5 billion.

Another famous yacht, said to be the longest, is Azzam, at an astonishing 590 feet. It is owned by the Emir of Abu Dhabi and can attain speeds of up to 31 knots. It showcases luxury at its finest and costs around $600 million.
