Torqeedo To Integrate Ocean-bound Plastics Into Its Emission-free Boating Products
Torqeedo GmbH, a prominent player in the maritime industry, is leading an essential environmental endeavour by incorporating ocean-bound trash into its emission-free boating equipment.
This decision is consistent with the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and decreasing the environmental impact of marine activities.
Torqeedo has formed an Advanced Engineering Team to lead this program, which is focused on researching alternative materials with low environmental effects.
Among its efforts, the team is thoroughly evaluating recycled ocean-bound PET and PP Plastic Pellets.
Due to demanding procedures and modern recycling equipment, these materials are expected to reduce the source material’s CO2 footprint by more than 80% while maintaining quality comparable to virgin plastic.
Florian Deger, project leader for Torqeedo’s Advanced Engineering Team, emphasises the country’s dedicated approach.
Torqeedo chose a 100% recycled ocean plastics prototype for its famous orange propellers over a conservative percentage of recycled content.
Initial testing has produced positive results, exceeding environmental and stress criteria.
Following minor modifications, the following prototypes will closely resemble the propellers now in use, indicating a smooth transition to sustainable materials.
Fabian Bez, CEO of Torqeedo GmbH, emphasises the larger significance of this undertaking. Integrating ocean plastics into products not only diverts plastic bottles but also helps to build a circular economy.
Torqeedo’s mission is to transform waste plastics into valuable resources, bridging the gap between recycling and market demand.
Bez challenges conventional beliefs about recycled materials, claiming that a circular economy for plastics is possible without compromising product performance or durability.
Torqeedo believes that successful testing rounds will pave the path for introducing items incorporating ocean-bound plastics within the coming year.
Bez emphasises the importance of the Advanced Engineering Team in achieving Torqeedo’s environmental strategy.
Each step toward decreasing boating’s environmental impact benefits humans and the natural environment while preserving the cherished boating lifestyle.
