Russia has announced that a group of warships has arrived in Iran to participate in maneuvers with both countries across the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
Russia’s defence ministry, in a statement quoted by state media on Monday, mentioned that the joint exercises, referred to as “Maritime Security Belt—2024,” are likely to involve war vessels and aviation.

According to the ministry, the more practical element of the mission will take place within the Gulf of Oman of the Arabian Sea. These manoeuvres aim to ensure the safety and security of maritime economic operations.
The ministry’s report states that Varyag, a missile cruiser from the Pacific Fleet, heads Russia’s grouping. It also states that representatives of navies from Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, India, South Africa, and Oman will be there as observers.
