He said, “I name you Laura Maersk! As you sail the waters of the world, may your journeys be smooth and your tasks successful. May you bring happiness to the crew and be a haven for all who board you, and may you bring prosperity and pride to all. I wish you God’s speed.” Then, per custom, he smashed the bottle on the ship’s hull and revealed the feeder’s name.

The 2100 TEU Laura Maersk has been named after the company’s first ship, Laura, which sailed in the 1880s. Its name symbolises Maersk becoming the first mover in global shipping to unfold a new era of a decarbonised future for the maritime industry.

This is a milestone for the maritime industry and a positive step towards achieving sustainability in the sector. Industry leaders and various stakeholders attended the naming event.

The function started with a performance by the Danish choir, who sang the Danish anthem, emphasising Denmark’s contribution as a green nation. Many notable personalities like Robert Mærsk Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller Maersk, and Mr. Vincent Clerc, CEO of A.P. Moller Maersk, gave speeches highlighting the urgent need for shipping to find greener alternatives.
