Watch: Iran Launches Ballistic Missiles From Converted Warship In Gulf Of Oman

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (abbreviated the IRGC) is now claiming its historic first with the test firing of two ballistic missiles from the former commercial vessel turned war vessel’s deck in the waters of the Gulf of Oman.

The IRGC also reported the successful shooting of two ballistic missiles through Shahid Mahdavi. The missiles possess the capability to reach targets that are up to almost 1,000 kilometres away. The successful firing of a long-range ballistic missile from the war vessel was carried out, Hossein Salami, IRGC’s chief, said, and that was aired on Iran’s television.

The Shahid Mahdavi, earlier an Iranian-flagged container vessel, has reportedly been converted into a war vessel equipped to carry both helicopters and unmanned fixed-wing aerial vehicles. The IRGC has for the first time successfully fired its ballistic missiles in the Gulf of Oman, per state television.

The long-range ballistic missiles’ firing from the warship was carried out, Hossein Salami, IRGC’s chief, explained. In central Iran, the IRGC has simulated surface-to-surface-based ballistic missile attacks on the Palmachim airbase in Israel to the south of Tel Aviv, per the reports of state television.

It mentioned that Palmachim was Israel’s primary base for F-35 fighter jets. The Iranian military activities come through at a time of rising regional tensions since the ongoing Israel-Hamas war broke out on 7 October.
