US Navy Identifies Sailor Lost Overboard From USS Mason In the Red Sea

On March 23, 2024, the US Navy identified a sailor, Oriola Michael Aregbesola, 34, who had gone overboard as he was deployed to the Red Sea.

The sailor was an Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class. On Wednesday, he went overboard from the USS Mason, military officials informed. He had been assigned to the Swamp Foxes associated with Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 74.

Aregbesola, a Florida resident, joined the Navy in 2020 (July).

Petty Officer Aregbesola embodied a selfless character and the spirit of a thoughtful warrior, according to the US Navy Sailor Cmdi. Eric Kohut, the commanding officer of HSM-74. His exceptional performance before and/or during deployment went beyond just aircraft maintenance; he valued each member of the ship and the air team.

Aregbesola lost his life owing to a non-combat incident, per the Department of Defense. This incident is currently being investigated.

Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, the deputy commander of the Centcom, recently informed “60 Minutes” that there were almost 7,000 US sailors deployed in the Red Sea area.

Biden deployed the US Navy to the Red Sea when the Houthis, who seized complete control of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, back in 2014, started launching attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea to show solidarity with Hamas.
