Royal Navy’s Largest & Most Advanced Attack Submarine Completes Trials in the Atlantic

HMS Anson, the latest and highly advanced submarine of the Royal Navy, is almost ready to kick-start her career after successful trials off the U.S. East Coast and in the Caribbean Sea.

It is the fifth sub of the Astute Class, which includes other submarines—the Astute, Artful, Ambush, and Audacious.

These submarines can remain underwater for long periods, producing their own oxygen and water for the crew members.

These hunter-killer submarines are nuclear-powered and the biggest and most technologically advanced submarines ever operated by the Navy.

They can launch Tomahawk Missiles, which precisely strike targets on land. They also have deadly Spearfish torpedoes to tackle enemy subs.

HMS Anson was in U.K. waters and then sailed to Scotland to test its weaponry systems. It reported successful firings of Tomahawk and Spearfish missiles.

The tests increased as Anson reached the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) in Bahamas waters.

This U.S. Navy base has the best experts in the world and conducts tests in a natural geological formation.

The ranges lying southwest of Nassau have a massive cave made of coral reefs. It is 150 miles long and 20 miles broad with a depth of 6000 ft in some places.

It has hydrophones and sensors fitted to record data about the performance of sonar systems, torpedoes, and submarines.

These tests are important for Anson to ensure she can find enemy subs without getting detected easily.

The trials also allowed Anson’s crew to rest and get to Andros Island.

Lastly, the submarine completed another set of system tests before she finally made its way home.
