AET & MISC’s Petroleum Arm To Develop World’s First Ammonia Dual-fuel Aframaxes
The world’s first two ammonia dual-fuel Aframax tankers had Time Charter Party Contracts signed by Malaysia’s tanker arm, MISC Berhad, through AET.
The contract for the operation of the vessels has been signed with PETCO Trading Labuan Company.
AET has signed shipbuilding agreements for these vessels with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry, a China State Shipbuilding Corporation subsidiary.
The deals represent the most recent milestone in the efforts to establish ammonia as a usable fuel for the broader maritime industry.
Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam, the CEO and President of MISC, praised PTLCL and AET for achieving such a substantial milestone since the MoU was signed in February last year.
Zahid Osman, the President and CEO of AET, said that with the latest signings, concrete actions are undertaken to deliver on the commitment as the industry leaders progress toward extensive decarbonisation of the shipping sector.
This groundbreaking achievement represents a significant leap forward in sustainable shipping practices, highlighting MISC Group’s commitment to innovation and ecological responsibility.
The MISC Group will further collaborate with like-minded players in the industry to drive the required ecosystem development to support ammonia as a bunker fuel.
The firms will continue training seafarers to securely manage the new generation of ultra-low-emissions tankers with Akademi Laut Malaysia and industry partners.
MISC Group is excited to take charge of sustainable maritime transportation and continue to stretch the boundaries of what is possible in the industry.
