AIDA Cruise Ship Searching For Crew Member Who Went Overboard In English Channel

A gigantic German cruise vessel has been sailing back and forth all over the English Channel, looking for a crew member the ship’s captain believes had fallen overboard early on Sunday morning.

The UK’s Coastguard said it has been coordinating its search with the help of a helicopter, lifeboats, and Coastguard aircraft.

The German cruise vessel reportedly called the AIDAperla, was on its way to Rotterdam from Hamburg when the man fell overboard, per Sky News.

In a statement to Sky News, the firm mentioned that the captain promptly started rescue measures in close collaboration with local authorities.

A search of the vessel also confirmed that the crew member had gone missing, the firm told Sky News.

Cruise Hive’s cruise vessel tracker reflects that the vessel has been moving in a “search pattern” and circling in the waters of the English Channel.

The AIDAperla is one of 13 vessels that belong to the AIDA cruise line. It reportedly serves the German-speaking market and is owned by the Carnival Corporation, per its official website.

The AIDAperla happens to be one of the greatest vessels in its fleet. The vessel weighs a whopping 124,100 gross tons and boasts a passenger capacity of about 3,400, and its capacity is 900.

The vessel has been scheduled to reach La Coruna in Spain on 23 October, but it is unclear if its arrival will be delayed due to the search, per Cruise Hive.
