Passenger Ship Kevalay Queen Collides With Cargo Ship Captain Adam 1 Off Istanbul Coast
The passenger and cargo vessel “Kevalay Queen,” under the flag of Libya, crashed with another cargo vessel off Istanbul’s coast; no casualties were reported.
The Libyan vessel was implicated in a nautical accident on Friday in the waters of the Bosphorus Strait, per Turkish media, which confirmed that there were zero reported casualties.
According to the TRT Haber channel, the 147-meter “Kavalay Queen” and the 103-meter cargo vessel “Captain Adam 1,” which was flying the flag of Tanzania, collided in the Sea of Marmara close to “Yenikapi.”
According to media reports, the same Libyan vessel contaminated the waters of the Bosphorus in August of 2023. It was penalized by 13 million Turkish liras after being held for hours by police at the Turkish port of Zeytinburnu. On the other hand, the same vessel encountered an engine failure off Dardanelles last year in November.
The vessel was detained in the port of Zeytinburnu on suspicion of polluting the water. The port police department demanded that the ship and crew give half a million US dollars to be released from custody. The demand was afterwards withdrawn, subject to the case being pursued.
Kevalay Queen started transporting guests in September 2021 toward the port of Izmir from the port of Misrata and, later on, the port of Istanbul based in Turkey, after the sea trips between the two nations paused for nearly four decades.
