Watch: Passengers Panicked As Cruise Ship Battles Rogue Waves In The North Sea

Panicked passengers on a Norwegian cruise liner that lost power after being struck by a rogue wave in the North Sea can be seen in a horrifying video that has emerged on social media. After the MS Maud was struck by 70-foot waves along with gale-force winds brought on by Storm Pia last week, the passengers were shown on camera donning life jackets and clinging to tables.

A terrified individual can be heard yelling, “Lay on the floor!” during the nauseating event, as captured on camera by SWNS. After departing from Tilbury Docks in the UK on December 9 with 266 passengers and 131 staff members, the ship ran into a storm on December 21 and lost power and navigational systems.

Per the outlet, Brian Launder, 75, and his spouse Carole, who was commemorating her 70th birthday with their inaugural voyage, were among the passengers.

Launder of Richmond, North Yorkshire, reported that he saw water rushing down the hallways and waves approaching the cabin windows on the fifth deck. He told SWNS on Saturday that, at one point, they were preparing the lifeboats and that they intended to return home in time for Christmas before the shipping accident.

They had to cut past the storm, thus they had to end the voyage early. We were without power for many hours, unable to move. Per the officers, the waves were between 15 and 20 meters high.

According to Launder, there was just one injury on the Hurtigruten Expeditions-owned vessel. He continued, saying that the captain was compelled to move the bridge to the guest lounge because of three windows blown out by a wave. He claimed on Sunday that when the ship was rerouted to Bremerhaven, Germany, a rescue ship was positioned next to the Maud to aid with navigation.

After returning to Hamburg, the pair intended to take an early morning flight to Frankfurt before returning to the UK and arriving in London on Christmas Eve. In the meantime, another video showed several passengers finding humour in the terrifying experience.
