Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, the Commander in Chief for Strategic Forces Command, Vice Adm. Suraj Berry, and the Commandant with the Naval Academy, Vice Adm. Puneet Bahl, were present for the launch. Madhu S Nair, CSL’s chair and MD, hosted the event.
The launch comes after the state-run Cochin Shipyard Limited and the Defence Ministry signed a Rs 6,311 crore contract in 2019 to build eight ASWSWCs for the Indian Navy.
According to officials, these Mahe class vessels will replace the Navy’s current Abhay class ASW corvettes and are geared for anti-submarine missions in coastal seas, low-intensity shipping, mine laying, and subsurface observation activities.
