The body was discovered on Thursday morning when the hunt was on for 11 other crew members who went missing when the cargo ship sank owing to heavy weather on Nov. 19, according to a statement released on X by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (abbreviated the AFAD).
AFAD extended condolences to those who had lost loved ones in the unfortunate tragedy, saying that professional teams were still searching for and rescuing the ten persons who had gone missing.
Contact with the cargo ship Kafkametler, which had 12 Turkish crew members on board, was lost while it was in the southern Black Sea when it submerged off the coast of Zonguldak due to unfavourable weather and sea conditions, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya in a statement.
On Monday, a day following the tragedy, one body was discovered.
