Watch: Cable Laying Vessel Catches Fire And Sinks In East China Sea

According to Korean media reports, a South Korean cable-laying vessel sank in the East China Sea, around 31 nautical miles off Tongyeong, South Korea.

The 6,204-tonne vessel names Responder suffered a fire on September 11th around 3.50 AM. There were around 60 crew members on board the vessel at the time of the fire.

All the crew member were rescued before the vessel sank after several hours of firefighting. The Korean-registered Responder is operated by KT Submarine.

“We are going to discuss the salvage method after precautions to prevent marine pollution,” was the company statement as reported by Yonhap.

No injuries or oil spill have been reported.
