Turkey’s defence industry company, Aselsan, has reportedly developed Turkey’s first-ever over-the-horizon indigenous submarine defence warfare sonar. This sonar enables rapid and prompt detection of underwater threats over vast distances.

According to a statement released by the Turkish defence major, the Low-Frequency Active Sonar System (abbreviated as the DÜFAS), made in alignment with the needs of Turkey’s naval forces under the auspices of the Defense Industry Agency, sends out acoustic signals through active sonar elements.

Measuring these signals from targets via passive sonar enables precise identification and tracking of submerged threats with extended reach and advanced precision, nullifying the menaces posed by the adversary submarines to Turkey’s Navy.

The system additionally discerns threats like torpedoes by keeping track of ambient noises in passive sonar mode and triggers countermeasure mechanisms when a torpedo threat is detected, thereby neutralizing the risk.

Haluk Görgün, the head of the Defense Industry Agency, mentioned that the system was introduced during the week of the 109th anniversary of the victory of Çanakkale and carried the spirits of the ancestors.

Düfas, a product of Aselsan’s engineering prowess, has reportedly been devised to detect underwater threats. He stated that empowered with a 360-degree all-encompassing scanning ability, Düfas is likely to augment the potency of the illustrious navy.
