Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has re-unveiled his ambitious plans for the significant Titanic II project. The project aims to build an exact duplicate of the iconic RMS Titanic. Palmer claims the vessel will be “far, far superior” to the original. Previous attempts to build the ship were put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic, among other issues, and the current project has been underway for more than ten years.

The announcement was made during a press conference at the Sydney Opera House by Palmer, the Blue Star Line firm’s chairman, who is leading the project. Palmer expressed enthusiasm that his vision for Titanic II would eventually become a reality despite past disappointments. He attributed his optimism to additional financial resources and a renewed commitment to the project.

The proposed ship will closely resemble its predecessor, with meticulous recreations of the original Titanic’s interiors and cabin layout. It will also use contemporary safety protocols, navigation techniques, and technology to guarantee the security and comfort of the passengers.

Titanic II’s significant partners are Finnish ship design firm Deltamarin, ship management services provider V. Ships, and Swiss interior design firm Tillberg Design. Palmer stated that he hopes to complete the selection process by year’s end, with construction expected to start in the first quarter of 2025, although the shipyard which will be used to complete the project hasn’t been disclosed.

The Titanic II is projected to be 882 feet long and weigh about 56,000 gross tons— slightly more than the original Titanic. Over its nine decks, the ship can accommodate up to 2,435 guests in three different types of accommodations. There are 251 third-class, 201 second-class, and 383 first-class cabins.

Despite technological advancements, Titanic II will retain some nostalgic elements of its predecessor, such as a diesel engine and four smoke stacks evocative of the Titanic’s coal-powered predecessor. The ship’s bridge will function as the navigational control centre outfitted with contemporary norms and guidelines, replicating the original in every detail.

Palmer envisions Titanic II as a tribute to the fabled ship of dreams and a symbol of international peace and togetherness. He believes the vessel can inspire worldwide compassion and understanding beyond its maritime legacy.

A new chapter in the Titanic II narrative, seeking to enthral the world with its majesty and historical significance, is heralded by Palmer’s unshakable determination, even though precise timetables for construction and launch were not revealed during the announcement.
