Ranks In Indian Navy To Be Renamed Per Nation’s Culture, Announces PM Modi At Navy Day Event

The Indian Navy’s ranks will be redesignated to reflect the country’s traditions, Prime Minister Modi announced on Monday.

He declared as he spoke at a Navy Day event at Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg Fort. He stated that India has drawn inspiration from the Maratha king Shivaji to advance beyond the mindset of slavery.

The Maratha ruler is important to the Indian Navy because he established the foundations of a sophisticated naval force during the 17th century.

He mentioned that he was pleased that the new epaulettes that the naval officers will be wearing now include a symbol of Shivaji Maharaj’s navy, Modi added. Last year, he had a chance to connect the Indian Naval flag with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s heritage.

Last year, the Navy accepted a new maritime ensign incorporating the Maratha ruler’s seal. The seal is a blue octagon with the national emblem layered on top of an anchor on a shield.

The prime minister stated that efforts are being extended to increase women’s power in defence forces. He congratulated the Indian navy for selecting the country’s first-ever woman commanding officer on a naval vessel.

Lieutenant Cmdr. Prerana Deosthalee is the first woman navy officer to command a warship from December 2. She’s the commanding officer of the INS Trinkat.
