India’s Defense Ministry Inks ₹ 314 Crore Deal To Upgrade Warship INS Beas

The Ministry of Defence (popular as the MoD) signed a contract with Kochi’s Cochin Shipyard Limited (abbreviated CSL) on Monday for the midlife upgrade as well as re-powering of India’s Navy frigate the INS Beas at a cost of about Rs. 313.42 crore.

The assignment would involve over 50 MSMEs and lead to the generation of employment for over 3500 personnel, the defence ministry informed.

The INS Beas is the first Brahmaputra Class Frigate that will be re-powered to diesel propulsion from steam. On completion of the Mid-Life Upgrade and Re-Powering in 2026, the INS Beas will be part of the active fleet of India’s Navy with modernized weapon suites and advanced combat capabilities.

The transformative maiden re-powering assignment earmarks a major stride in the maintenance philosophy of India’s Navy and the repair capabilities of the CSL.
