Disney Cruise Line’s Newest Ship, Disney Treasure, Floats Out Of Meyer Werft Shipyard
Disney Treasure, the newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line’s fleet, floated out of the Meyer Werft Shipyard’s building dock into the shipyard harbour on August 03, 2024.
The 144,000 GT cruise ship, the second in the Wish class series, is currently docked and undergoing final interior outfitting before its scheduled delivery later this year.
The float-out is a traditional maritime ceremony that celebrates the completion of the ship’s exterior.
A tugboat guided the Disney Treasure through the shipyard’s narrow doorway, with only three feet of clearance on either side.
A crowd of enthusiastic onlookers assembled at Papenburg, Germany, to witness the achievement and greet the ship with joy.
The cruise ship will now get its finishing touches, including interior decor inspired by Disney Masterpieces like Aladdin, Coco and Zootopia.
The Disney Treasure, with a capacity to accommodate 4,000 passengers in 1,240 cabins, features cutting-edge eco-friendly technology, including a low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion system similar to that of its sister ship, the Disney Wish, delivered in 2022.
Meyer Werft delivered the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy to Disney Cruise Line in 2010 and 2012, respectively.
The ship’s exterior has recently been enhanced with iconic character sculptures of Peter Pan and Captain Hook, adding a touch of Disney magic.
These sculptures, over 9 feet tall, were crafted in California before being installed on the ship’s stern in Papenburg.
The Disney Treasure’s interior is almost complete, with all 1,246 staterooms installed.
Each cabin was built off-site and then delivered to the shipyard for final installation.
The ship also features a Funnel Vision Stage for live performances and is nearing completion of its 760-foot-long AquaMouse attraction, which will debut a new show, “Curse of the Golden Egg.”
A new “Guardians of the Galaxy” dinner show, “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix”, will also be featured at Worlds of Marvel on the Disney Treasure.
The interactive show will allow guests to join Groot on a journey while enjoying Marvel-themed entertainment and trivia.
The Disney Treasure, scheduled to sail in December, will feature a Haunted-Mansion-themed bar and a Jungle Cruise-themed lounge, among other fascinating amenities.
The Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure ships, as well as a new ship set to sail from Japan, are all part of Disney Cruise Line’s continuous expansion.
Sharon Siskie, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Cruise Line, expressed excitement for the new ship, stating that they’re excited for families to discover the excitement and exploration that awaits them onboard the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
