China Delivers Second Home-Built 141,900-Tonne Cruise Ship Nearly Two Months Early
Adora Flora City, the second large cruise ship built in China, has been handed over to its operator in Shanghai, earlier than originally planned.
The handover took place on November 6, 2026, according to Xinhua. Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding built the vessel for the operator Adora Cruises.
The ship measures 341 meters in length and has 2,130 cabins, with space for up to 5,232 passengers. She is 17.4 meters longer than her sister ship Adora Magic City, which was China’s first large cruise ship built domestically.
The vessel’s gross tonnage is 141,900. For guests, the vessel offers 28 restaurants and bars along with a 200-meter circular running track on deck, according to Global Times.
The deputy general manager at the shipbuilder said that construction efficiency improved by 20% with the first ship, with the build time cut by eight months. He added that domestic content in the interior outfitting materials reached 80%.
Adora Flora City also completed a 12-day sea trial in the East China Sea in May this year.
Shipbuilder chairman said that conceptual design has already begun on China’s third large cruise ship, as the program moves from a single-ship breakthrough to series construction.
Adora Cruises is a joint venture between CSSC and Carnival Corporation. Adora Magic City began its maiden voyage on January 1, 2024, and completed its 200th commercial voyage in May 2026.
The ship would reach its Guangzhou base at the Nansha cruise port on November 12. Her maiden voyage is scheduled for November 22, with Olympic diving champion Guo Jingjing as the launch ambassador. The six-day itinerary covers Hong Kong and Hue in Vietnam, with the first call at Hong Kong the following day.
Adora Cruises has also announced that the ship will make Hong Kong its home port in 2027, with nearly 20 sailings planned during the season. A special overnight New Year’s Eve cruise would also depart Hong Kong on December 30.
