Cruise Ship “Silver Moon” Diverts Route From Red Sea For Security Concerns

Silversea Cruises has recently made many changes to Silver Moon’s new cruise schedule owing to the geopolitical scenario in the waters of the Red Sea and the Middle East. Per a statement shared on the vessel, while the itinerary currently offered by the ship was modified for security reasons, the vessel’s future departure was reportedly cancelled. As anticipated, considering the fluid geopolitical scenario in the firm’s operating area, it would desire to offer frequent updates, as mentioned in the letter that was distributed to guests.

The Global Security team is monitoring the whole scenario and further recommended amending the cruise itinerary on the northern front of the Red Sea, the statement mentioned. After departing from Aqaba in Jordan on 6 Jan, the Silver Moon offers a 10-night cruise in the waters of the Red Sea. The team has developed an alternative port schedule efficiently that they are confident will boost and, at the same time, safeguard the quality of guest experience while also making sure there is optimum comfort, the company said.

Earlier destined to stop in Muscat, Oman, the current voyage will include more ports of call in Egypt before heading back to Aqaba, as Silversea explained. The decision was made prioritizing the safety and security of guests and crew members and making sure that the cruise ship does not land itself in a zone of potential escalations, the company declared, noting that the scenario in the area has been changing daily.

Per the statement, Silversea will offer its guests new outbound flights that start from Aqaba, along with overnight accommodation and transfers. Besides, owing to circumstances beyond the firm’s control, they have decided to cancel the upcoming voyage, Silversea mentioned, stating Silver Moon’s 16 Jan departure.

Sailing from Oman to Dubai, the ten-night cruise was set to visit several destinations in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrein, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Affected guests will get different compensations, including a refund of the cancelled cruise portion and Future Cruise Credits.
