Bulk Carrier ‘Corona’ Reports First Suspected Case Of Coronavirus At South African Sea-Port

A couple of vessels (bulk carrier – Corona and cruise vessel – AIDAmira) in the Port of Cape Town are being held off port limits after a crew member on board Corona Bulker began to show symptoms of COVID-19.

It was later found that he had flown from Istanbul, Turkey into Capte Town with a fellow crew member on 9th March.

Six passengers who boarded the cruise liner, AIDAmira, at the same port were also confirmed to have been on the same flight.

As a precautionary measure, all eight individuals were quarantined and evacuated from the ships. However, only the initial crew member of MV Corona is showing signs of being infected.

This is the first suspected case of COVID-19 in a South African sea-port.

The remainder of the cruise liner’s passengers will remain quarantined on board until all test results are received. Further decisions will be made based on the these results.
