Police Storm Disney’s Newly Launched Cruise Ship & Arrest 2 Shipyard Workers
German federal officers boarded the giant cruise vessel, ‘Disney Adventure’, in a targeted operation on Wednesday.
They arrested two individuals as the ship berthed in Germany, just 2 days after it was launched.
The cruise ship had arrived at the Sassnitz/Mukran ferry port to take on fuel.
The police searched the premises of the 1122 ft long and 150 ft wide luxury vessel, before finally finding the two men.
One was a 44-year-old Croatian whom the Bavarian Police wanted for driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was sentenced by the Augsburg District Court in 2022 to pay a £2,081 (€2,400) fine or spend 60 days in jail.
The man paid the fine and was allowed to remain on the vessel.
The second man was a 24-year-old Slovenian who was wanted for fraud, and an arrest warrant in his name had been issued by the Munich District Court.
After being caught by officers, he was taken to a correctional facility.
A spokesperson from the German Federal Police said that the two people were shipyard workers travelling with the cruise ship, and they were to carry out final work on its test voyage.
The cruise ship had set sail from Germany this week to begin its first series of trials in the Baltic and the North Seas.
More than 1400 workers are presently on board the cruise ship. After the police finished their operation, the ship continued its voyage to Bremerhaven port, where it is scheduled to undergo more trials and assessments.
It will leave from Singapore on December 15, 2025, for its maiden voyage once all the work is finished.
The cruise ship can accommodate 6700 passengers and around 2500 crew members.
