Naval architecture is basically the study of science and technology of design, construction, development, usage and repair of all kinds of ships, boats and other sea vessels, along with permanent shore structures. The profession not only revolves around different disciplines of engineering but also has a wide scope for other types of career for it is a field that incorporates much more. Some of the major avenues that open up for professionals venturing in this field are described here.

Research and Development

Research in marine technology is considered a prestigious career option worldwide. Naval architects some of whom are having academic credentials are engaged in these researches at various universities, academic institutions and industry centres all across the world.

Design

Considering the complex parameters involved in the designing of the marine vessels, ship design is a challenging task and also very promising career option. Not only does a naval architect needs to be creative but also should be an efficient team worker and leader, for the design of any vessel has to cover up functioning, appearance, strength, stability and most importantly safety. All these facets are planned to perfection, so a working knowledge along with excellent communication with various task handling teams is vital. Construction process and repair

Once the design is ready, the construction begins. In simple words it is the discipline that involves converting the detailed specifications of the designs into physical structures. The professional profile of the naval architect who specializes in the construction part also involves around management. This is because it engages administration of the complete building yard that spans various sections like planning, production and most importantly fitting. Throughout the entire process, the person managing it has to be able to identify areas of improvement like training needs, introduction of new techniques and cost-effectiveness.

Majorly this involves around the customers of the marine industry, and apart from the products and designs even services are offered. The operations section employs naval architects who smoothly manage the process and delivery.

In addition to these, a naval architect can be involved in the discipline of surveying, regulation and quality control which is extremely important. Teaching and training is also a field where above average professional are always in demand.

In short there are innumerable opportunities for naval architects to explore their professional abilities and craft a successful career within this field.

    I have finished Naval architecture in UG with the highest CGPA of 9.31 in my university and I have been working in a shipyard for more than 5 years and now I want to study Masters in Europe.
