US Coast Guard Rescued 3 People Stranded On Oil Rig After Their Vessel Sank Off Texas Coast

The U.S. Coast Guard managed to rescue three boaters from an offshore oil rig platform close to Freeport in Texas on Sunday morning.

Officials mentioned that the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston got a report at around 3 a.m. that three watchstanders from Sheriff’s Office in Matagorda County were left stranded as their vessel started to take on water and eventually sank. The Coast Guard then sent out a crew to retrieve them.

The watchstanders reportedly issued an emergency marine information broadcast and then directed the launching of a Coast Guard Station Freeport 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew. They diverted members of an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew for assistance, the U.S. Coast Guard mentioned.

It added that the aircrew of The Coast Guard successfully located and relayed the position of the survivors to the boat crew members. Once the boat crew reached the scene, the three individuals were taken onboard and then taken to Surfside Marina.

The boaters were in a stable state.

The day before, on Saturday, 20 May, members of the U.S. Army, the Coast Guard, the U.S. Navy, the National Guard, the Air Force, and the Space Force celebrated the Armed Forces Day.
