The Costa Favolosa : The Largest Italian Cruise Ship of 2011

The brand new Costa Favolosa is the largest Italian cruise ship ever, weighing 114,500 tons, and able to accommodate 3800 passengers on board. The Costa Favolosa is the largest luxury cruise ship ever built for an Italian cruise line. Costa cruises accepted delivery of this luxury cruise ship named the Costa Favolosa at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Venice.

The Costa Favolosa is like a contemporary enchanted castle with fascinating technological features and it is sure to enchant guests by providing them a truly fairy tale holiday. The Costa Favolosa happens to be the eighth of nine Costa ships constructed by Fincantieri between the years 2003 to 2012. Costa Favolosa has a variety of marquee attractions to offer which includes a huge spa, a fitness centre, a children’s aqua park playground with its own pirate galleon, Grand Prix racing simulators, a reality area with a virtual 4D cinema, a Play station World, an outdoor movie screen and last but not the least, a very relaxing and soothing aft pool area.

The ship further sports cold ironing technology which allows the Costa Favolosa to plug into a shore side power supply when in port. This eliminates the need for this luxury cruise ship to keep her engines running all the time.

The Costa Favolosa ‘s first voyage departed from the Venice Maritime station on July 1st 2011 to Trieste, where she was named in a ceremony by none other than the versatile Italian actress Margaret Made. The Costa Favolosa, Italy’s biggest and most luxurious cruise ship, on her maiden voyage on July 4, 2011, has 8 day Mediterranean cruises from Venice and Bari, visiting Olympia in Greece, Izmir and Istanbul in Turkey and also Dubrovnik in Croatia.

For the winter cruise, Costa Favolosa is scheduled to sail 7 day Middle Eastern itineraries from Dubai, touching Musket, Khasab in Oman and Fujairah and Abudhabi.

The Costa Favolosa is indeed the pride of Italy and is the fifteenth vessel comprising Costa’s fleet; the only one flying the Italian flag. Around 3000 employees and 7000 workers from related industries contributed to the construction of this luxury cruise ship.

The Costa Favolosa is so conceived and designed to stun the onlookers with her spacious outside areas and fabulous state of the art technology and impeccable service. The incredible innovations on board include six new verandah suites with their own Jacuzzis. The Samsara spa is one of the largest wellness centers ever built on a cruise ship. With dedicated cabins and restaurants, a large central lido that extends over two decks, complete with gliding glass roofs for all year round relaxation. A giant movie screen shows movies, music videos and other entertainment.

For those keen on pursuit of thrills, there is the Grand Prix driving simulator, placed sixty meters above the sea, and is produced from an original GP car. This reproduces for the adventurous the excitement of the world’s most advanced golf simulator.

The aft pool is large and inviting, with 160 sun loungers, water front whirlpool tubs and a highly invigorating and thrilling waterfall. The cruise ship offers the latest in techno gym equipment, which facilitates users to browse the internet, watch TV or listen to their I pods while they work out.

On board this fabulous luxury cruise ship are duty free shops and a Costa concept store conceived by none other than the international designer Emilio Robbie. Here, you can find the “Atelier du Parfum” where you can mix and match fragrances to blend your own customized perfumes. The cuisine offered on board this fabulous luxury cruise ship is a virtual treat for the palate- there is something for everyone on board, from the a la carte club to the wellness restaurant, the self service buffet with dishes from places visited during the cruise and traditional Mediterranean delicacies as well.
