US-UK Coalition Launch New Air-strikes On Houthi Targets In Yemen

The U.S. and the U.K. carried out a brand new series of combined air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Pentagon said that air strikes carried out on January 22 hit nearly eight targets that included weapon storage facilities, air defence systems, missile systems, and launchers.

The most recent strikes carried out by the U.K. and the U.S. were against eight Houthi targets based in Yemen in response to the continued attacks by the Houthis against international as well as commercial shipping and also naval vessels sailing in the Red Sea, explained Washington and London, in a joint statement with other nations that supported this military action. The strikes are intended to disrupt as well as degrade capabilities that Houthis use to threaten worldwide trade and innocent mariners, mentioned the statement.

In another statement, the U.S. Central Command stated that these air strikes were aimed at places that included missile systems, launchers, radars, air defence systems, and buried weapons storage facilities: the U.S. and the U.K. claim to be trying to safeguard the free flow of commerce.

In a joint statement, the Pentagon mentioned that additional proportionate and necessary strikes were conducted against Houthis. The goal continues to be to de-escalate tensions and restore stability in the waters of the Red Sea. The warning to Houthi leadership is that they will not hesitate to defend the lives and free flow of worldwide commerce in a crucial waterway, especially in the face of ongoing threats, the statement read.

Based on the joint statement, Australia, the Netherlands, Bahrain, and Canada supported the coordinated strikes. Along with four RAF Typhoons from the U.K., two Voyager tankers, and U.S. fighter jets from the carrier Eisenhower conducted the strikes on Monday. The aircraft struck numerous targets at two military locations near Sanaa airfield using Paveway IV precision-guided bombs. The U.K. Ministry of Defence claimed that these places were being used to facilitate the outrageous attacks against international commerce that were still occurring in the Red Sea.

This is the eighth strike launched by the U.S. on Houthis in Yemen. This is the U.S.’s second joint operation with the U.K. after the coordinated air strikes on January 11.
