US Nuclear Powered Submarine "USS Missouri" Docks in South Korea

According to a report by the Yonhap news agency, the USS Missouri (SSN-780), a nuclear-powered submarine, docked at the port city of Busan in South Korea on Sunday.

The second Nuclear Consultative Group conference between the United States and South Korea was conducted in Washington on Friday, and the submarine’s arrival followed it.

The meeting resulted in a joint declaration that stressed how unacceptable it would be for North Korea to launch a nuclear attack on the US or any of its allies and warned that doing so would bring about the collapse of the Kim governance.

A top South Korean official had earlier raised the potential of North Korea testing intercontinental ballistic missiles this month, raising concerns about it.

Aiming to strengthen deterrence against North Korea, agreements between Seoul and Washington have led to an increase in the frequency of U.S. nuclear submarine visits, which were previously rare.

The USS Santa Fe, a different nuclear-powered American submarine, stopped at a harbour on the South Korean island of Jeju in November. A U.S. aircraft carrier named USS Carl Vinson also docked in Busan last month as part of efforts to strengthen deterrence against North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
