U.S Fighter Jet Intercept And Destroy Anti-Ship Cruise Missile Fired From Yemen

An unspecified U.S. fighter reportedly shot down an anti-ship cruise missile in Yemen that was fired from the Iran-backed Houthi forces. The missile was going toward the Arleigh-Burke-class-guided missile destroyer Laboon in the southern Red Sea, the U.S. Central Command mentioned on Sunday.

The incident took place at around 4:45 p.m. Sanaa time, per CENTCOM. The missile was reportedly shot down in the vicinity of the Hudaydah Coast by the U.S. fighter aircraft. There weren’t any injuries or damages.

This is the first time a shoot-down by an aircraft during this crisis hasn’t had the service specified. Only the U.S. Navy Super Hornets have been involved in the engagements thus far. This might have altered.

This is the second known attack on vessels in the area by Houthi forces, as the U.S. and the U.K. struck multiple targets in Yemen as a response to ongoing strikes on shipping. The USS Laboon has successfully shot down several Houthi drones and missiles in recent weeks.
