Thailand To Start National Shipping Company To Promote Maritime Trade
Thailand’s Transport Ministry will establish a national shipping firm to promote maritime trade, per Bangkok Post’s report.
Manaporn Charoensri, the deputy transport minister, asked the Port Authority of Thailand (abbreviated the PAT) to conduct feasibility research for the whole cabinet to review. Besides, the Ministry must also decide if the shipping firm should be run as a state firm or following a public-private partnership model.
Initially, the shipping major would contribute approximately 2% of Thailand’s import and export trade value or nearly 31,005 TEUs.
Per sources, the national shipping line targets starting operations with four container vessels.
