Smartship Australia Chooses Augmented Reality Simulator For Maritime Training

A maritime simulation and training hub of Queensland, Smartship Australia, has reportedly started implementing a new augmented reality (AR) simulator system dedicated to pilot training, successfully delivered by the FORCE Technology of Denmark.

Smartship Australia’s pilot training facility based in Brisbane boasts five marine simulators, including two mission bridges, a Tug bridge, and a two-part task simulator. The FORCE Technology’s SimFlex simulator has operated at the centre since it was first established in 2011.

The centre upgrade with the AR tech will likely be executed by the first quarter of this year, creating the first-ever maritime AR simulator on Australia’s continent. The platform will receive FORCE Technology’s future DEN-Mark2 mathematical model once it is released in 2024, which will offer enhanced model accuracy and line forces calculations.

The aim is to help Smartship Australia successfully deploy the most recent technology in the maritime VR simulation zone and make sure it is cutting edge, explained Jan Michelsen, the Director of FORCE Technology’s Ports, Simulation, Training and Human Factors/Safety Management business.
