Indian Navy And Coast Guard To Receive 463 Stabilised Remote Control Guns

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence signed a deal with the company Advanced Weapon Equipment India Ltd. (abbreviated as the AWEIL), Kanpur, for the manufacturing as well as supply of 463 12.7 mm Stabilised Remote Control Guns (abbreviated as the SRCG) indigenously manufactured for India’s Navy and the Indian Coast Guard (abbreviated ICG). The cumulative cost of the deal is Rs. 1752.13 crores, with Indigenous Content (abbreviated IC) of over 85%.

The SRCG is going to enhance the capabilities of India’s Navy and the Indian Coast Guard to engage small targets that pose a threat to vessels in an asymmetric environment during the night as well as in the day. This acquisition is also going to provide a boost to “Aatmanirbharta in Defence”.

These include a Navratna Company firm — Hindustan Aeronautics Limited — the greatest DPSU under the Department of Defence Production, India’s Ministry of Defence. Bharat Electronics Limited (abbreviated as BEL) is a Navratna Company established in 1954 under the MoD.

BEL has some core competencies in the Defence sector in Sonars, radar and Weapon Systems, Communication, Electro-Optics, EWS, and Tank Electronics.
