Dubai has showcased its prominence as a worldwide maritime centre, achieving the highest ranking in the Arab world and securing the eleventh position worldwide in the 2024 Leading Maritime Cities (abbreviated LMC) report.

This marks the advancement of two places from the earlier ranking in 2022. The report, revealed in Singapore by Menon Economics and DNV, acknowledges Dubai’s substantial contributions to the broader maritime sector.

The LMC report for the current year attributes Dubai’s enhanced ranking to its performance across five critical areas: maritime technology, shipping centres, ports, logistics, and competitiveness, including legal and financial aspects.

Dubai’s responsibility towards green technology in the maritime sector was also emphasized.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the Chair of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (popularly known as PCFC), expressed his fulfilment in such an achievement.

He credited the success to the Dubai Maritime Authority within the PCFC, which bolstered Dubai’s position on the worldwide maritime map.

The leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the support from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were also acknowledged as crucial to Dubai’s victories.

Bin Sulayem stressed the role of strategic plans and initiatives led by the DMA in boosting the maritime sector’s competitiveness.

He also spoke of the efforts of specialized teams within the PCFC and appreciated the collaboration with worldwide maritime hubs that contributed to this milestone.

Dr. Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al-Maktoum, the Executive Director of the DMA, reiterated the Authority’s dedication to innovation in logistics.

He stressed the importance of following and maintaining safety standards, environmental practices, and regulations to strengthen Dubai’s leadership position.

He further stated that this indicates the efficiency and effectiveness of Dubai Maritime Authority’s extensive development strategy.

The achievements in the LMC index underscore Dubai’s economic attractiveness and its role as a stable economic hub with strengths in financial, security, technology, and green tech.

Besides its LMC ranking, Dubai leads Arab maritime capitals, reflecting its innovative initiatives intended to enhance its worldwide standing in this crucial sector.

In the meantime, Singapore globally retains its spot as the leading maritime city for this year.

Dubai’s ascent in the international maritime rankings echoes its commitment to excellence in a sector vital to its economy and to establish fresh benchmarks in competitive maritime practices.
