The FLNG facility is expected to carry out liquefaction, production, storage and offloading processes of LNG at the offshore gas fields.

Malaysia-based Petronas held the naming ceremony for the FLNG that it had ordered in June, 2012, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering noted Sunday. The deal struck between the two is valued at $800 million.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering President Jung Sung-lip and Petronas President Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin attended the naming ceremony. The world’s first FLNG facility was named PFLNG SATU.

The facility is 365 meters long and 60 meters wide, and its size is the equivalent of 3.6 soccer fields. The hull of the facility has the capacity of storing up to 180,000 ㎥ LNG and 20,000 ㎥ condensate, the amount that can be used by around 50 million Koreans for three days.

Petronas will deploy PFLNG SATU in the Kanowit field off Sarawak, Malaysia, where it will produce up to 1.2 million tonnes of LNG every year.
