Ukrainian Sea Drones Strike Sochi Waterfront, Injuring 28, Including 2 Children

Sea drones fired by Ukrainian forces hit Sochi, a Russian holiday resort destination located around 700 kilometres from the border of Ukraine.

The town, which is also the Second Capital of Russia and President Putin’s summer residence, is visited by many belonging to the elite sections of society during the winter months.

This is the second drone attack at the resort on the Black Sea coast after the first one a week earlier. The latest strike was on September 9, 2026, and officials in Krasnodar Krai confirmed it, saying it injured around 30 people, including 2 children.

Following the attack, a fire also broke out at the waterfront and infrastructure, including a restaurant, was also damaged.

The Mayor of Sochi, Andrey Proshunin, told people to seek shelter at a safe place and not to come out or visit crowded places until further notice.

Videos of the strike taken by the residents and posted on social media platforms showed chaos as people ran to find shelter amidst the drone strikes.

Explosions could be heard in the background, and many drones were also being intercepted by Russian defence systems, as visible in the footage.

A blast occurred close to the beach, startling everyone. The concert by the singer Tatyana Bulanova, who supports the invasion of Ukraine by her country, was also disrupted when the drone attack happened.

The concert was being held close to the beach promenade, and attendees were safely evacuated by security.

The first attack towards Sochi was launched on September 3, 2026, by the military of Ukraine, in which a Russian warship was destroyed.

There was also a fire in an oil facility near Sochi; videos confirmed it, though the fire was brought under control, it reignited after a few days.

Ukraine also launched strikes against the Port of Novorossiysk, which has become the main target in this war since it handles significant volumes of Russian oil exports.
