UK Deploys Royal Navy Ship To Deliver Aid To Gaza & Create New Maritime Corridor

A Britain-based Royal Navy vessel will provide aid to Gaza as part of the international effort dedicated to setting up a humanitarian maritime corridor by early May, per reports of the foreign office and Ministry of Defence.

The multinational effort, involving Cyprus, the US, and other partners, will help develop a temporary pier off the Gaza coast, David Cameron, the British foreign minister, said.

The current scenario in Gaza is dire, and the prospect of famine is real.

Cameron stated that they continue to be committed to getting aid to all those who desperately need it.

His office informed that Cameron had pledged 9.7 million pounds for logistical expertise and aid equipment to support the establishment of the maritime corridor to Gaza from Cyprus.

The initiative will see aid pre-screened in Cyprus and directly delivered to Gaza through the new temporary US pier being built off the coast or via Ashdod Port when Israel agrees to open it, the foreign ministry declared.

British Defence Minister Grant Shapps mentioned that the temporary pier on the Gaza Coast will host cargo vessels to deliver aid by sea.

The government said British military teams were embedded with planning teams in the US operational headquarters in Florida’s Tampa and Cyprus for weeks to develop the safest and most effective maritime path.

Last week, the killing of seven aid workers, including three British, in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza triggered a worldwide outrage and witnessed the dismissal of two military officers from Israel.

Britain’s defence minister, Grant Shapps, said that the new temporary pier on Gaza’s coast is preparing to host cargo vessels that will deliver aid by sea.
