U.S. Navy Awards $516 Million Contract To Austal For Building Lead Ship Of Its Ocean Surveillance Program
Australia’s defence shipbuilder Austal Ltd. reported in an exchange filing that it had secured a $516 million deal to build the lead vessel of the US Navy’s ocean surveillance mission, T-AGOS 25.
The deal, declared on May 19, was for $113.9 million for an exclusive design of the US Navy’s Tactical Auxiliary General Ocean Surveillance Ship (T-AGOS 25 Class), with many options to design and build up to seven such vessels.
On May 31, the US Navy exercised its option to modify the deal to construct a vessel, permitting Austal to purchase the material needed to keep building the surveillance vessel.
If several options under the deal are exercised, the total value of the order comes to $3.20 billion, per Austal.
T-AGOS vessels, operated by the US Military Sealift Command, aid the anti-submarine warfare (abbreviated as ASW) mission of the commanders associated with the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets, the shipbuilder mentioned in its statement.
