Taiwan Detects 7 Chinese Military Aircraft & 5 Naval Vessels Around Its Territory

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defence (abbreviated as MND) reported that it spotted seven Chinese military aircraft and five naval vessels deployed around Taiwan from 6 a.m. local time on Saturday and 6 a.m. local time on Sunday.

Per the Taiwanese MND, one of these military aircraft stepped across the Taiwan Strait’s median line and into the Taiwanese Southwest Air Defence Identification Zone.

In response to Chinese action, Taiwanese armed forces studied the situation and promptly deployed combat patrol aircraft, coastal missile systems, and naval vessels, per the Taiwanese MND statement.

On X, the Taiwanese MND stated that 7 PLA aircraft and 5 PLAN vessels that were operating around Taiwan were spotted until 6 am (UTC+8) on 5 May.

It mentioned the aircraft crossing Taiwan Strait’s median line and entering SW ADIZ.

The ROC Armed Forces have scrutinized the situation and have responded accordingly.

On Saturday, the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defence informed that nine Chinese military aircraft and five naval vessels were found to be operating around the nation on Friday from 6 am (local time) to 6 am (local time) on Saturday.

Taiwan’s MND posted on X that 9 PLA aircraft, along with five PLAN vessels operating close to Taiwan, were spotted up until 6 am. (UTC+8).

So far in May, Taiwan has detected China’s military aircraft 39 times and naval vessels 21 times.

From September 2020 onward, China has strengthened the use of grey zone tactics by deploying more naval vessels and military aircraft near Taiwan.

Per the CSIS, grey zone tactics are specified as an effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state assurance and deterrence that strive to achieve one’s security goals without resorting to the sizable and direct use of force.
