Iranian Navy Gets New Cruise Missiles Equipped With Highly Explosive Undetectable Warheads
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the addition of advanced cruise missiles to its naval fleet, with highly explosive and undetectable warheads.
The move comes as regional tensions rise following the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, which Iran blames on Israel. The disclosure reflects Iran’s determination to expand its military capabilities amid the continuous war between Israel and Hamas.
Major-General Hossein Salami, the Guards’ top commander, stated that in today’s world, one must be powerful to survive or give up and that there is nothing in between.
The newly acquired missile and other advanced armaments, such as long—and medium-range missiles, reconnaissance drones, and naval radar, strengthen the Guards’ naval fleet.
According to state media, 2,654 military systems, including these new technological advances, have been integrated into the fleet, but only 210 are publicly displayed for security reasons.
The introduction of these new missile systems coincides with the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict and increased regional volatility. Iran’s military enhancements are seen as a direct response to the death of Haniyeh.
Since the start of the Gaza conflict on October 7, 2023, resulting in massive casualties, including 1,198 deaths in southern Israel and at least 39,699 in Gaza, the situation has remained unstable.
Iran vowed to take revenge for Haniyeh’s death and previously launched missiles directly at Israel in April.
Iran’s acting foreign minister, Ali Bagheri, criticized Israel for making a “strategic mistake” and warned that it will “pay a price” for the Tehran attack. Despite its support for Hamas and celebration of recent strikes, Iran denies any direct involvement in the Gaza conflict.
The IRGC’s new arsenal, shown on state television, only covers a part of the 2,654 systems, with 210 displayed for public viewing.
According to the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Iran has the most ballistic missiles in the Middle East, indicating the country’s powerful military capabilities.
