Indonesian Authorities Seize 106 Kg Of Crystal Meth On Ship En Route To Australia
Indonesian law enforcement authorities captured 106 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine onboard the Legend Aquarius in the waters off Karimun, Riau Islands.
The bust, which occurred on July 13th, resulted from a collaboration between the National Narcotics Agency of Indonesia (BNN RI), the Directorate General of Customs and Excise’s Sea Patrol Unit, and Riau Islands Province local authorities.
The operation began in response to public disclosures of narcotics smuggling across Indonesian waterways.
Authorities acted immediately to capture the Malaysian-flagged landing craft transport (LCT) suspected of carrying illegal substances.
The vessel was seized at Pongkar Waters and then escorted to Batam’s Sekupang Makmur Abadi Harbor for a comprehensive inspection.
After investigating the vessel, authorities discovered 106 plastic-wrapped packages suspected of containing methamphetamine.

The investigation resulted in the arrest and interrogation of three Indian nationals, identified as RM, SD, and GV, who were reportedly involved in the smuggling operation.
According to sources, the suspects concealed the narcotics aboard the ship throughout its journey from Malaysia, intending to deliver them to Brisbane, Australia.
“This interception not only foiled a major smuggling attempt, but it also saved countless lives from the devastating effects of drug abuse,” said a BNN RI representative at a press briefing following the operation.
If convicted of narcotics smuggling charges, the accused risk harsh penalties, including the possibility of a capital sentence under Indonesian law.
Prior to this incident, the Legend Aquarius, a vessel known for transporting containerized cargo across Southeast Asia, was flagged in Singapore and appeared to have clean records.
The bust highlights the persistent challenges and joint efforts required to combat multinational drug trafficking networks that operate via maritime routes.
Indonesian officials expressed gratitude to governmental partners and the community for their assistance in combating illicit narcotics trafficking, emphasizing the importance of public collaboration in ensuring maritime security and combating transnational crime.
As investigations continue, officials are focused on destroying the network responsible for this smuggling effort and ensuring that justice is served in accordance with Indonesian laws.
