Houthis Threaten To Continue Attacking U.S. & British Warships

The Yemeni-Iran-aligned Houthi group stated on Wednesday that it would keep up its attacks on British and US warships in the waters of the Red Sea in acts of self-defence, stoking the fears of long-term disruptions to worldwide trade. The group’s military spokesperson mentioned in a statement that all British and American warships in “aggression” against the country were its targets.

Britain and the US have sent out targeted strikes on Houthis in Yemen and returned the militia to the terrorist group list as the turmoil from the ongoing Israel-Hamas war expands through the region. The Houthis, who have taken control of the most popular areas of Yemen, have been attacking the vessels in and around the turbulent Red Sea, stating that their actions are in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza war.

That conflict has reportedly spilt over into various parts of the Middle East. The Iran-aligned Hezbollah of Lebanon has reportedly traded fire with Israel’s troops that are along the border as well as Iraqi-armed groups have launched an attack on the US forces based in Iraq. The Houthi attacks on the waters of the Red Sea have reportedly added an economic element to the turmoil by trying to target shipping in and around the waters of the Red Sea.

The statement additionally stated that missiles fired by the Houthis struck the USS Gravely. The US military’s central command said on Tuesday night that they had intercepted one anti-ship cruise missile that had been fired toward the Red Sea via Yemen. No harm had been recorded.

Container vessels have been the primary focus of the Houthi strikes. This route continues to be used by many fuel tankers.
To avoid being attacked, certain maritime corporations have stopped making transits via the Red Sea, which is accessible from the Gulf of Aden and instead have taken more protracted and more expensive routes across Africa.

The Houthis have made it clear that they will not cease their military campaign in Gaza unless a truce is reached and supplies of food and medical supplies are permitted into the enclave to alleviate a dire humanitarian situation.
