Fincantieri Launches Its 2nd LNG Cruise Ship, “Star Princess,” In Monfalcone
The “Star Princess”, a liquified natural gas (LNG) cruise ship, was officially launched at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone on September 26, 2024.
This is the Fincantieri shipyard’s second LNG cruise ship for Princess Cruises.
The launching ceremony was attended by the President of Princess Cruises, John Padgett, and the Director of the Monfalcone Shipyard, Cristiano Bazzara.
The ceremony was graced by the two godmothers of the ship, Chiara del Vecchio, a third engineer aboard the “Sun Princess” and Francesca Maraventano, an executive assistant the Monfalcone Shipyard.
The Star Princess, with a gross tonnage of about 1,78,000, is the sister ship to the Sun Princess, which was delivered earlier this year.
The vessel is the second-largest cruise ship ever built in Italy, representing Fincantieri’s continuous commitment to LNG-powered technology.
It is the second dual ship to join Princess Cruises’ fleet, powered mostly by LNG.
Liquified Natural Gas is the most advanced and commercially viable fuel technology for the maritime industry. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions while reducing airborne pollutants and particle matter, making it one of the cleanest fossil fuels available.
Star Princess is part of Princess Cruises’ Sphere class and will be delivered in the fall of 2025.
The ship is designed to accommodate around 4,300 people. Its next-generation platform focuses on innovation and sustainability, which aligns with the cruise line’s commitment to reducing emissions.
Princess Cruises operates a fleet of 17 modern ships that cater to millions of guests annually and provide access to 330 destinations worldwide.
