Cochin Shipyard, Drydocks World To Build Ship Repair & Offshore Hubs Across India
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) and Drydocks World, a DP World company, are strengthening their partnership to jointly develop ship repair and offshore fabrication hubs across India.
The move will expand India’s maritime infrastructure alongside other initiatives such as the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Mumbai last month.
The agreement was signed during the visit of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who serves as the Crown Prince of Dubai as well as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE.
The MoU signing took place in the presence of Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, and Madhu S. Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited.
A high-level team from Drydocks World visited Cochin Shipyard in Kochi on May 1 and 2. The delegation was led by Drydocks World’s CEO, Captain Rado Antolovic.
During their visit, the team explored key CSL facilities, including the main yard, the newly inaugurated 310-metre dry dock, the International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF), and the Marine Engineering Training Institute.
The visit was focused on operationalising the MoU with immediate plans to begin collaborative work at the ISRF in Kochi. In the long run, both companies aim to extend their joint efforts to other regions of India as well.
The collaboration is expected to bring global best practices to the Indian maritime industry and enhance capacity for ship repair and offshore fabrication.
CSL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Madhu S. Nair, expressed that the visit by Drydocks World’s leadership is an important step in implementing the agreement and that CSL is looking forward to exploring new opportunities in ship repair through this partnership.
Captain Rado Antolovic of Drydocks World also noted that combining global expertise with CSL’s local strengths will help establish a strong and modern ecosystem for ship repair and offshore services in India.
Both organisations believe the collaboration will significantly contribute to positioning India as a global hub for maritime services by integrating advanced technology, world-class infrastructure, and skilled manpower.
