China Discovers Secret Underwater Spy Devices & Lighthouses Hidden On The Ocean Floor

China’s Ministry of State Security has announced that it has found various spying devices on the oceans’ surface and deep seas, including advanced underwater “lighthouses” allegedly used to help foreign submarines.

The government said these devices were hidden on the ocean floor and transmitting data about China’s territorial waters.

Per the ministry’s official WeChat account, the presence of these devices indicates possible preparations for foreign military action, which is a “pre-set field for battle.”

According to the statement, some devices acted as “secret agents,” drifting with ocean currents to monitor activities in real-time, while others functioned as underwater “lighthouses,” directing foreign submarines in Chinese seas.

The specifics of where these devices were found were not revealed, but the ministry said they were located in areas claimed by China.

The announcement confirms China’s accusations of continuous foreign surveillance in its maritime territories.

The South China Sea is a crucial area due to its rich natural resources and important maritime routes, and disputes over these waters have only increased geopolitical tensions.

Recent disputes between China and the Philippines have raised concerns about a possible conflict that might involve the United States, which has a mutual defense treaty with the Philippines.

The U.S. Navy often conducts operations in the South China Sea, a move which China sees as provocative. The ministry’s statement about the spying devices could worsen these tensions, as China may take action against alleged foreign snooping.

Defense analysts believe that undersea “lighthouses” could improve foreign military capabilities by providing detailed navigation assistance in contested waters.

The Philippines has expressed its concerns over China’s actions, particularly the deployment of Chinese vessels in its exclusive economic zone. Filipino officials have described these actions as “coercive,” showing concern for Chinese maritime practices.

Apart from the South China Sea issues, China continues to have serious concerns about Taiwan since it considers the self-governing island to be a part of its territory.

While Beijing’s claims did not specify which nations may be behind the deployment of these spy devices, the Chinese government is concerned about foreign espionage activity in the region.
