Iran Reveals Deadly ‘27 Rajab’ Missile Boat Built to Target Warships 700 KM Away
Iran unveiled its new high-speed assault ship, ‘27 Rajab’, during a public ceremony at Enghelab Square.
The news comes at a time when the U.S had announced new shipping measures for Hormuz and carried out strikes against Iranian vessels in the Gulf.
The new attack boat, as analysts suggest, demonstrates Iran’s military capabilities and its naval strategy, which they refer to as the mosquito fleet.
This includes small, fast attack vessels which the IRGC has spent decades building and perfecting for the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf and Hormuz, where large warships often face difficulties in manoeuvring.
Coming to the features, 27 Rajab can attain a speed of 100 knots or 185 km per hour and can fire two long-range cruise missiles with a 700 km range.
Designed for coastal and maritime security missions, its most distinct characteristic is the ‘trimaran hull design,’ consisting of a main hull and two outriggers.
This enables the vessel to remain stable even during rough sea conditions and at high speeds.
Additionally, it can operate in waves as high as 3 metres. The vessel has specialised onboard systems which can quickly adapt to changing wave and weather conditions, making it a highly valuable asset for the IRGC.
US President Trump had claimed in social media posts that the Iranian Navy has been largely dealt with; however, Iran, by revealing this new fast attack craft, wants to demonstrate that its naval fleet is becoming even more modern and lethal.
