Indian Navy Deploys Warships To War-Stricken Middle East As Part Of Operation Sankalp
Indian Navy warships are deployed in the Middle East amidst the U.S-Iran war, as part of Operation Sankalp.
The naval vessels are carrying out anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden and also looking out for merchant ships so they can reach their destinations.
The move comes after a U.S. Naval Ship carrying ammunition for the Navy was attacked in the waters by the Iranian Navy.
The Indian Naval vessels also plan to rescue any stranded Indians or seafarers, if the situation demands, per sources.
A Cabinet Committee Meeting was held to assess the situation, attended by Indian PM Narendra Modi and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan, who reviewed the preparedness of the armed forces.
In the meeting, which was attended by high officials of the country, ensuring the safety and security of the Indian Expatriate community remained the major priority.
Plans were discussed to save Indian students stranded in the affected countries, along with broader implications of the war on the Indian economy, regional security and commercial activities.
The Committee has asked all government departments to assist Indian nationals at airports and embassies.
Dubai Airports began limited operations yesterday as many international airlines resumed services to select sectors only. Suspensions are still in place across the Middle East as the ongoing war has led to airspace restrictions across West Asia.
