India Condemns Strikes On Tanker Ships Near Hormuz As 2 Indian Seafarers Go Missing

Two Indian seafarers went missing after the commercial vessels, MT Petro Dolphin and MT Valthera, were attacked at the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, October 11.
MT Petro Dolphin was reportedly struck by a drone, after which the two seafarers aboard the vessel were reported missing, while nine crew members were safely rescued.
In another incident, an unknown projectile struck the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker, MT Valthera, which eventually led to a fire. All 11 seafarers who were on the vessel were reportedly safe.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) denounced the incidents and called for the de-escalation and resolution of the ongoing conflict with immediate effect. The MEA also expressed concerns over commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz region and mentioned that the safety and security of Indian seafarers is a top priority for the Indian Government.
According to Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, MT Petro Dolphin was attacked at Sohar Anchorage. There were a total of 11 Indian seafarers who were in the vessel. The search operations are underway for the two missing seafarers. Sonowal reported that the operation was led by the local coast guard.
Sarbananda Sonowal also commented on the MT Valthera attack and confirmed that an unknown projectile was the source of the firebreak in the vessel.
The Indian authorities are working in close coordination to provide necessary support in the rescue operations. The Indian Embassy in Muscat has been in touch with the respective ship management companies and Omani authorities, while monitoring the whole situation very closely.
Preceding these two attacks, another incident of similar nature occurred on October 9 at the Sharjah Anchorage, where a crude oil tanker, MT Gem No. 2, was attacked. The vessel carrying 22 Indian seafarers was targeted in a drone attack. While speaking about the incident, Sarbananda Sonowal mentioned that all 22 Indian nationals were safe.
