Fire Onboard World’s Biggest Aircraft Carrier USS Gerald R.Ford Injures 2 U.S Navy Sailors
A fire onboard the U.S Navy’s newest and the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, injured two sailors, per the U.S. Military.
The non-combat-related fire started in the main laundry area, per reports. Fortunately, it was contained, and no damage was reported to the ship’s propulsion plant or other onboard systems.
The two sailors suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and are currently being treated.
The USS Gerald R.Ford has been in the Red Sea for over 9 months now, earlier engaged in operations in the Caribbean and now against Iran.
It houses over 5,000 sailors and over 75 military aircraft, including F-18 Super Hornet Jets.
The U.S.-Iran war, which started after the U.S. and Israel began missile attacks on Iran, has injured over 150 U.S troops.
Shipping Operations in the Gulf region, especially the Strait of Hormuz route, a major maritime chokepoint for 20% of the world’s oil and gas, have come to a standstill, not to mention rising oil prices across the globe, rising shipping costs, delays, and LPG shortages in countries like India.
Meanwhile, Iran has urged nations to negotiate if they want their ships to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz.
A turkish vessel named Rozana was allowed to cross the strategic waterway, and also two India-flagged LPG tankers, which were given a go after four rounds of talks between the Indian and Iranian governments.
The new leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, has clearly stated that Iran will fight on and will keep the Hormuz shut, especially for U.S and Israeli ships.
U.S Central Command said that the U.S has carried out strikes against more than 6000 targets in Iran. It added that over 90 Iranian ships were destroyed, including 30 minelayers.
