Chinese Engineers have created a unique design for a research ship which would weigh 11,023 tons and include a 5000 metre drilling tool, inching the project closer to construction.

China has one of the biggest research and marine fleets in the world, incomparable to any other European, American or Asian country.

The design came to fruition after researchers, academics and engineers at the China Communications Construction Company completed pioneering research and came up with the promising blueprint.

The ship would have a Beidou time and space reference system for positioning and navigation, which would help it in mapping and surveying.

It would also feature an on-site testing system and ocean observation equipment, enabling it to function as a floating science laboratory that can conduct oceanographic activities.

Many countries operate these research and survey ships to explore marine environments, study their impact on human life, and track environmental changes over centuries.

It has a system with two drilling levels in different operating conditions, including during powerful waves. It also has a downhole cone penetration system to work at water depths of 1500 metres to collect samples from the seabed.

The deep-sea research vessel would work as a mother ship, launching crewed and unmanned ships. Equipped with the most advanced hydrological and meteorological systems, it integrates all platforms together to provide the collected data in one place for efficient analysis and further research.

Though in the design stage, it has already got 31 technical plans, 14 software copyrights, and 39 invention patent applications. The engineering team tested two units as prototypes as well.

After all assessments, the work was found to be advanced at international levels as well, with some media reports calling it ‘groundbreaking’ or even ‘world-leading.’

The work was assessed after the technical research was completed and found to be advanced at international levels overall, while some of the work was marked as world-leading, a local media report said.
